New Brisbane Broncos coach Kevin Walters stormed out of a press conference today after questions were asked about star forward Payne Haas recent off-field drama.
Haas, 21, was arrested following an incident at Tweed Heads, in northern New South Wales, on January 16 and charged with using offensive language and intimidating police. He avoided conviction after appearing in court on Thursday, but was handed a two-year good behaviour bond.
Walters, who today was at a press conference for next week s All Stars Boxing event in Townsville, spoke to reporters where he was asked about Haas s recent incident.
And as Haas approaches his fourth NRL season, and prepares to become a first-time dad, his new head coach shapes as a key person in getting that message through to him. Don t worry about pre-season recruitment, Walters should turn his focus to emphasising the standards he wants set under his guidance. As the saying goes, the standard you walk past is the standard you accept. Walters has trumpeted his ability to repair the culture at Red Hill and now the jovial Brisbane great has the chance to guide his players through the latest controversy.
