Regulatorss ability to adapt and strengthen protections for consumers. Otherwise, well limit regulatorss ability to keep up with Technology Change and reserve a private right of action for consumers and for Financial Institutions to ensure that affected entities and breach victims have further recourse. Further, consumers must be consistently provided with clear disclosures of the rights and remedies available to them so they are aware of the various ways in which they can protect themselves from Identity Theft and fraud and other cyber crimes. Mr. Chairman efforts to guard against Cyber Threats are critically important and shouldnt deval of into the same partisan fault lines seen on far too many other issues before this committee such as the basis attacks on watchdogs like the cfpd and blocking efforts to reauthorize the charter of the import export bank that expires in 22 legislative days. With that, i look forward to hearing from the witnesses today, and i yield back the balance of
That as we have this longer term discussion of investment and structure that we do drn that everyone understands that the program, Aviation System and the Grant Program and aviation structure in the United States has always been about achieving twin objectives. First is to have an efficient system that serves the largest number of passengers and second is too provide a level of access to communities throughout the country. And in previous reauthorizations that has always been matter of great debate as you well know between members of congress about how to achieve that balance. That challenge and issue does not go away under any structure, nor does any structure alone deal with what those issues are. What youre raising is a important Public Policy request, where are we going with respect to ensuring a modernization of that system, while at the same time ensuring some level of access. And that debate i think is let me give i was part of building a Great Technology company in montana and
Im pleased to cochair this hearing on the present and future impact of Virtual Currency. My friend senator merkel and i appreciate the work senator heller has done and senator kirk will be joining us as well. Were going to do this a little different because its a joint subcommittee hearing i will chair the first panel and the senator will chair the second. The uses of Virtual Currencies have proliferated in recent years. My hope for this hearing is to educate the Senate Members and others and start the education of the public about Virtual Currencies, including the potential and drawbacks. I also hope to explore how regulators are keeping up with this technological innovation to protect consumers. Ive got a full statement here but i actually have to acknowledge that ive been following this development of bit coins for the last two months. I would think im only starting to wrap my head around the potential upside, downside, regulatory issues, Monetary Policy issues, taxation issues, Con
Peace settlement. That was important. Then in 1995 everything went straight back to what Dick Holbrooke called the problem from hell. Exemplified by the slaughter, the second major showing of the sarajevo market after which nato launched a 30 one hundred Missile Mission campaign, airstrikes and missile strikes, and was clark and the whole team went about trying to to get some agreement on basic principles to open peace talks. That was strobe talbotts job, keep the russians happy. Easy little job. The result was thes agreement. The Peace Agreement that said there would be one unified country with an undie vieded sir yea slow sarajevo as capital. Trade and immigration, and each division the serbian republic and the bosnian and croatian republic would have their own Police Forces and, basically, run their domestic lives. Then we had to sell it, including a peacekeeping force of 60,000, twothirds of which would be supplied by 25 other countries, onethird by the United States. You heard the
Lenders. I think thats something that id like to talk a little bit about here today because members of our military have to resort to financing from these predatory lenders all too often. We know military Service Members are three times more likely than civilians to use predatory payday loans that charge exorbitant rates. Thats three times the civilians use. The military families carry 10,000 or more in Credit Card Debt compared to 16 for civilian frames. 10 of military families carry more than 20,000 in debt compared to just 7 of the civilian families, and more than half of military Service Members are not saving for the future and have trouble paying their monthly bills. Thats why this morning, i reintroduced my military savings act which is legislation i previously introduced in the house of representatives, and the bill would promote Savings Rates among military Service Members and decrease their need to turn to predatory payday lenders in times of financial crisis. The bill establ
