it? one of the biggest things that republicans will have to realize is they move to these extreme measures where you pass bills that don t allow rape or the life of a mother to even be considered. this is really extreme and outside the mainstream of where the american people are at. the more they do this because they are worried about primary, the more they will show they are not a party that represents the mainstream of america. in congress, we ll continue to advance legislation like we have to make sure there s paycheck fairness. women make 80 cle 0 cents on th dollar. we ll make sure women are recognized as the 52% if republicans keep going down this worm hole, eventually that will hit a lot of dirt. we ll be much better off as democrats. we will block anything they try to do in regards of taking away equal rights for women. there is push back. chris matthews had a hardball
still fighting that. in in this last election there was voter oppression with people of color. in georgia, in kansas, in florida, it s a travesty. we have to put a stop to it. i am passionate about this issue. i got to be in the speaker s chair again when my colleague john lewis came to speak on the full bill hr-1. we all came here for reasons that were deeply personal. i m an educator. in the first two weeks of committee assignments we raised minimum wage voted out of committee a school infrastructure bill, paycheck fairness, voted out of commit year. i was a part of that. next week i m going to put forth a bill that says we will not use federal funds to arm teachers. that was my absolute. i was willing to lose the election over that.
about division within the party, we have been singularly focused on those issues we ran on. we pass hr-1. we passed hr-8 and hr-11-12 for gun reform. we passed the voting reform. in my committee on education and labor, paycheck fairness, raising the minimum wage. $100 billion school infrastructure bill. for the first time, we had the secretary kirstjen nielsen, in to answer those questions about caging children at the border. so despite what people are saying, democrats are focused on the agenda, and lucky for us, we have people who know how to walk and chew gum at the same time. because as things come up, we re dealing with them. but we re still moving forward with our democratic agenda. and i was in washington this week when other civil rights leaders dealing with voting rights and other issues, meeting with members of the senate and congress. and i don t sense the kind of hostility and fighting that a lot are talking about. there are some tactical
justice and equality and the ability for every day working people to work 40 hours a week and supply and provide for their families. i think that s the country that we re fighting for. i think that at its core that s something we can agree on and it s just about having and making the commitment to get there. before i let you go, you re both wearing white. almost every woman with a congressional pin that i ve seen walking by is wearing white. describe why and explain why? 2019 is the 100th oanniversay of the women s right to vote. there s so much more that we have to fight for from wage equality to paycheck fairness to protecting ourselves and believing survivors. i think this is a really amazing opportunity. we have a very large number of women, a record number in the freshman class that have been elected to congress this year. i think it shows that over a
6:00 p.m. eastern time. he has a personal story to tell. he is 43 years old. he is how do you see him as a potential candidate. i see him as a flat earth society worshipper. and they re going to try to portray him as some kind of new and fresh face. he s nothing more than the same old tired republican policies that he s embraced. he s called increasing the minimum wage silly. he has suggested that paycheck fairness for women is a waste of fight for paycheck fairness is a waste of time. he supports increasing taxes on the middle-class and his tax plan that he released is again, just a replication of more of the same. tax cuts for the wealthiest most fortunate americans. so if you want to put what is essentially a prune and package some tinsel around it, that does not make you fresh and new.
