By April 6, mask mandates in Evansville will disappear – kind of.
Both Mayor Lloyd Winnecke and the Vanderburgh County Commissioners announced on Tuesday that they will follow Gov. Eric Holcomb’s lead and let the COVID-19 face-covering requirement regress from a “mandate” into an “advisory.”
Capacity restrictions will fade away as well. But some masking requirements will linger – especially in K-12 schools and government buildings. And businesses will be free to enact restrictions of their own.
“We’re not saying don’t wear masks,” Winnecke said. “We’re saying wear masks … but the city government is not going to mandate it.”
