Host Wilkes-Barre Scranton scored the game-winning goal 35 seconds into overtime, giving the Penguins a 3-2 win over the Monsters on April 5. Roman Ahcan and Stanislav Svozil scored goals for Cleveland (35-23-5-3), which has dropped seven in a row. Svozil’s tally came with 1 minutes remaining in the third period to force the OT. Pavel Cajan saved 29 of their 32 shots he face for the Monsters, who moved into second place in the AHL North. They are four points behind first-place Syracuse and one point ahead of Rochester. Cleveland visits Lehigh Valley on April 6.
Host Providence’s Georgii Merkulov scored a power-play goal 45 seconds into overtime, lifting the Bruins to a 4-3 victory over the Monsters on Feb. 23. Brendan Gaunce and David Jiricek also had goals for the Monsters (30-15-3-2) in the first period. Gaunce also had two assists. Cleveland trailed, 3-2, deep into the third period until Trey Fix-Wolansky tied it with 1:56 remaining with his 17th goal of the season. Pavel Cajan saved 31 of the 35 shots he faced in the Cleveland net. The teams will take Feb. 24 off before a rematch Feb. 25 at Providence.
