“Higher education among the workers helped Pune’s industry escape the fate of Mumbai’s textile mills which died an untimely death due to lower adaption of technology and violent labour unionism. While trade unions tried to make inroads in Pune’s industrial belt – they were not successful because of these reasons,” Anant Sardeshmukh said.
After receiving information about the mishap, teams of Pune city police and Pune Fire Brigade rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. Prima-facie, as per police, it appeared that a container collided with a truck with the latter catching fire due to the impact.
The bandh was observed in Aundh, Baner, Pashan, Bopodi, Sutarwadik, Mhalunge, Someshwar Wadi and Sus to support the demand for reservation to the Maratha community.
