Of the 6,300 million tonnes of plastic waste generated, only nine percent has been recycled and 12 percent incinerated, while 79 percent accumulates in landfills.

Three East African films have been shortlisted for World Health Organisation (WHO) prizes from a list of about 1,200 entries in a health film competition.
The WHO’s Health for All Film Festival , aims to nurture a new generation of film and video innovators who will champion global health issues, create global awareness, increase understanding, and rally action around pressing health issues around the world.
In East Africa, Kenyan films Kwa Muda, directed by Gibran Mwaisa, and Trachoma in Turkana, directed by Kate McCoy, Taome Bamford-White and Tom Jenkinson from the UK, have been shortlisted for the prizes.
