A LOCAL youth group that provides vital support and opportunities from young people, has just received a chas boost from one of the UK’s largest housebuilders. Oxfordshire Youth has been awarded a £1,000 grant by Persimmon Homes Wessex through its successful Community Champions scheme that supports community groups and charities. The youth group started over seventy years ago and currently helps 98 of Oxfordshire’s most vulnerably housed young people. These includes those who are homeless, those who are refugees and asylum seekers, and those from difficult backgrounds . Cathy Talbot, corporate fundraising manager, said: “We’re delighted to accept this generous donation from Persimmon Homes.
Swindon and Wiltshire Pride receives £1,000 cash injection Swindon and Wiltshire Pride has received £1,000 from Persimmon Homes for its next Pride event. Persimmon Homes Wessex donated the funds the group through its Community Champions scheme, an initiative that each month match funds two community good causes up to the value of £1,000. Swindon and Wiltshire Pride has held an annual event since 2008, bringing together communities across Wiltshire and beyond in a celebration of LGBTQ+ rights, diversity and inclusion for all. 2019’s event saw a record breaking 10,000 people attend across the day. Phoenix Stewart, on behalf of the group, said: “We hope for SWP 2021 to be the most inclusive event yet and really encompass everyone with our theme we are family . To achieve this, we want to include more assistance for our visitors with disabilities to show they are supported and included. Julia’s House Children’s Hospice on Bath Road, Devizes, has welcomed a cash boost that will allow them to continue offering life-changing care in the region. The hospice was handed £1,000 by Persimmon Homes Wessex as part of housebuilder’s Community Champion initiative. Paul Baker, on behalf of Julia’s House Children’s Hospice, said: “We are delighted to be the latest recipient of Persimmon Homes Wessex’s Community Champion donation. “As we receive no government funding for our services, we rely heavily on donations such as this, as well as our own fundraising activities, which unfortunately have been impacted this year due to Covid-19. So, this donation means a huge amount to us, thank you.
