TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â Housing, food and good health are the top three needs one organization is working to address in the Big Bend.
211 Big Bend has seen a dramatic increase in calls for help since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
âIt certainly feels good to help someone and hear someone say youâve really helped me today,â shared Stephen Sardelis.
Sardelis is a hotline supervisor at 211 Big Bend. Just like you would call 911 for emergencies, you can call 211 for help with things like food or shelter.
2-1-1 Big Bend searching for more volunteers as call volume continues to increase
2-1-1 gets nearly 2,000 calls per month. That s a 43 percent increase from last November.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) â 2-1-1 Big Bend needs help as more people turn to the agency for support during this pandemic.
Call volume to 2-1-1 Big Bend increased by 43 percent in November compared to last year. The center is now fielding nearly 2,000 calls a month. Volunteering for 2-1-1 has been one of the most rewarding and exceptional experiences of my life. I have learned so much and have been honored to be able to give so much back to the community as well and help so many people in a variety of ways, said 2-1-1 Big Bend Outreach and Education Coordinator Paulina Lewis.
