FISHERTOWN â The Chestnut Ridge School Districtâs school board on Tuesday approved a 2.5% increase in property taxes as part of the districtâs preliminary 2021-22 budget.
The budget includes $22.62 million in expenditures and $21.45 million in revenue, leaving an about $1.17 million deficit to be covered by the districtâs fund balance. The tax increase will raise the millage rate to 8.864 mills on every dollar of assessed value, equating to $10.81 for every $50,000 of property value.
Superintendent Dr. Mark Kudlawiec said the increase would generate more than $140,000 in additional revenue.
The school board will vote on final approval on the budget at its meeting in June. The board approved the tentative increase unanimously, but not until after discussing whether or not staff cuts would be needed within the next few years.
