Southland property market still hot despite cool off in available properties

Bayleys Real Estate Southland Winton real estate agent Paula Johnstone said that a combination of low median house prices, sitting at $385,000 in June 2021 compared to the national average of $820,000, and the lifestyle available in Winton had pushed quick sales despite an expected winter cool off in home open attendees. “We’re finding from people in Winton that our lifestyle is in high demand,” Johnstone said. “People don’t necessarily want those five acreage properties, they want the country lifestyle.” This demand for a more simple country lifestyle, coupled with a reduction in available inventory, has propelled Southland housing prices up 23.2 per cent from $341,000 in June 2020 to $420,000 in June 2021.
