A north-east mum whose newborn son was gravely ill with sepsis and meningitis has urged other parents to be aware of the warning signs. In the days after baby Harris Davidson was born in June 2017, mum Lisa had a gut feeling he “just wasn’t quite right.” The tot had a little infection, plus ongoing jaundice and was being “fussy” when it came to feeding – and his mum began to wonder if a serious issue was emerging.

A children’s charity is encouraging people to take advantage of the easing Covid restrictions and make a difference for sick youngsters and their families. With the pandemic forcing the cancellation of many events during the past year, income for The Archie Foundation has dropped by two thirds. The organisation supports children’s hospitals in Aberdeen, Inverness and Dundee by funding specialist staff, key equipment and parent accommodation. It also helps Friends of the Neonatal Unit at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital and Grampian Child Bereavement Network.

The organisation, which supports children’s hospitals in Aberdeen, Inverness and Dundee, suffered a 67% fall in income compared to 2019. As the pandemic took hold and fundraising slowed, the charity also found itself with more people in desperate need of help. A number of its key roles and services were also placed at risk as a result of the cash flow concerns.
