Many surfers in Western Australia will be saddened by the loss of master surfboard maker Tom Hoye. Tom applied his considerable skills in WA for 50 years, to a devoted following. He leaves an advance orders book extending out for two years.
Tom came to Australia from Northern California at the start of the 1970s. Born on April Fool’s day in 1945, he was brought up along with sister Jeananne by his single mum Marion in picturesque Santa Cruz, not far from that epicentre of North American big surf, Mavericks.
