Nexperia is growing into a new set of clothes – Bits&Chips

Now, the semiconductor company has cranked up the ambition level, venturing out beyond standard products. “When I present an investment proposal to our CEO Xuezheng Zhang these days, I don’t just get an approval, I get asked: can you do more? Can you do this faster? Can you double it? In the 30 years I’ve been working in the semiconductor industry, it has never happened to me that I want to hire 15 new engineers, only to be suggested that 20 or 30 might be better,” says Dan Jensen, general manager of Nexperia’s business group Analog & Logic ICs (A&L).

Intel CEO to meet with EU officials – Bits&Chips

One important pillar of the package is for Europe to become less dependent on others when it comes to key technologies. Among other things, the Digital Compass calls for 20 percent of the world’s leading-edge semiconductors to be manufactured in Europe by 2030.

Vodafone probes Effect Photonics optical transceivers – Bits&Chips

11:53 Vodafone will soon start testing Effect Photonics’ optical transceiver technology in its mobile network. “The first results of the tests are positive,” says Boudewijn Docter, president at Effect Photonics. “A working link has been established in the lab with all filters and other components that are also present in a real connection. NXP closes the books on a tumultuous year – Bits&Chips

11 February It’s been a year with two faces for NXP, but all’s well that ends well. Believe it or not, 2020 was a better year for NXP than the year before. In 2019, the Eindhoven-headquartered chipmaker saw its revenue drop 6 percent year-on-year, whereas over 2020 the decline was ‘only’ 3 percent, to 8.6 billion dollars. The company stayed well clear of losses too, with an operating income of 418 million dollars (-35 percent) and a net income of 80 million dollars (-71 percent). The so-called non-GAAP operating income, used by NXP to provide a better comparison with previous periods, was 2.23 billion dollars (-13 percent). Not a bad result for a year in which the world was enveloped in a pandemic the likes of which haven’t been seen in a century.
