Community Trust Mid and South Canterbury changes grant rounds

Supplied Community Trust Mid and South Canterbury is introducing a new funding model to make it easier for applicants. A restructure of funding rounds aims to make it easier for applicants seeking grants from the Community Trust Mid and South Canterbury. The new method, to be introduced in the new financial year, will see two grant rounds annually for capital projects up to $20,000, two for capital projects over $20,000 and two for operational programme or event funding. Trust board chairman Nathan Mills said in the past applicants selected a round to meet the level of funding they sought – up to $10,000 or over $10,000.

South Canterbury foodbanks benefit from community grants

In a move to help vulnerable households, the total funding distribution for foodbanks in the region by the Community Trust of Mid and South Canterbury in 2021 has come to $121,900. The trust decided to broaden its support in an effort to combat food poverty in 2019 and set up an invitation-only funding round. After community research and discussion eight main foodbanks were identified and contacted and all eight applied in 2019, and in February 2020, were granted multi-year funding by trustees.. St Andrew’s Food Bank Geraldine, Presbyterian Support South Canterbury (PSSC), St Vincent de Paul Timaru, The Salvation Army Timaru, The Salvation Army Waimate and Foodbank Canterbury have all benefitted from the funding.
