COVID-19 vaccine maker Johnson & Johnson said a booster shot would significantly extend the window of protection from the coronavirus, according to trial data.
Pandemic history has shown COVID-19 cases spike in the days and weeks following a holiday, and the reopening of California is roughly two weeks after Memorial.
Some places around the county are already putting that into play.
At Petco Park, people who can prove they have been vaccinated are allowed to sit in a special area, closer to the field, and where social distancing isn’t enforced. Expanded seating availability for vaccinated or COVID-19-negative fans is helping the Padres, and businesses near the ballpark, perform. NBC 7 s Lauren Coronado has the story. We should emphasize the main reason why we want to get people to vaccinate; because we want to reach herd immunity, said Dr. Schalch. Herd immunity means the economy opens up, we can go back to our regular routine, we can go to concerts, sports events, go to the movies without having to worry. Ultimately, that s everyone’s goal.”
Flores has underlying conditions himself so his daughter, Jade, says she worries.
“There’s times there have been a few risks, said Jade Flores.
There was no doubt in both their minds the vaccine was the way to go.
“I did it because I want us, our society to go back to normal.”
And normal, or at least a new normal, is something Dr. Paul Schalch says could be possible with the vaccine. A message he hopes reaches those who may be hesitant.
“Even though there has been mention of some side effects when the vaccines have been administered, they don’t compare to what can happen to you if you get the COVID-19,” said Dr. Schalch, otolaryngologist.
