members that you served with that the longer you talk to them the more support you ll get because a lot of people don t feel comfortable going to a support group or, you know, talking to people that haven t experienced the same thing you have experienced. so talking to those guys that served with you and also experienced the same things is a great benefit. you have the recon sniper foundation that is yours, correct, juan? it s not mine. it s a foundation it s an organization that i m promoting. and hopefully, you know, everyone here can go ahead and hopefully get on the webpage and take a look and maybe donate a couple of bucks. while we re at it paul rykoff it s iavi.org. my dad still goes to his vietnam reunions. he only feels comfortable
comes to our care, when it comes to everything we have earned and fought for, and all we re asking for we re not asking for a free ticket to the lotto. we re asking literally for appointments and care so we can live a quote-unquote normal life. so, what is the holdup? why is the wait? why is that such a priority but when it comes to taking care of us and our families that s not a priority. how do you make sense of the fact there seems to be a double standard? i honestly can t make any sense of it. i talked to a lot of guys that have served, my good friend, paul rykoff, the executive director of veterans of america and they re constantly knocking on congress door and talking to everybody about these issues and what we need to see done in the veterans space to create a solution. none of us can make sense of it. none of us understand the holdup. i know we re nominating somebody brand new and that it great. could be a good candidate to
possibly fix it but it s not necessarily just money. we need a leader to come in and essentially be informed of all the issues that our service members are facing, and at the end of the day, if someone is doing the complete opposite of what they should be doing, they got to go. doesn t matter where the stand or rank, they got to go. as you mention that s how it would be dealt with in the military. i m curious on your future aspirations you said this has gotten you so fired up you re thinking maybe you should get into politics and a lot of viewers would support it. given anymore thought to that? i actually have. i said that last time i was on the show with neil, talking about this very issue, and seems like that was six months ago and we re still talking about the same issue. it wasn t. it was a month ago. but i have thought about it. it s something i talked to a lot of my friends, paul being one of them and it s something that you think to yourself on the outside i thought gettin
of the veterans affairs to accomplish this mission. i d like to thank my family for supporting me throughout my life but especially during this next chapter. my wife deann, my daughter jenny, my son-in-law and my son are all here today. my parents and deann s mother could not attend today but thank you for your love and support. thank you again, mr. president, i look forward to working with you to transform veterans affairs to better serve our country s veterans. thank you. you re welcome. [ applause ] good job. you just heard president obama nominate former procter & gamble ceo to lead the department of veterans affairs. so let s take a moment to talking about what veterans might think of this choice. joining me is paul rykoff, the ceo of iraq and afghanistan
veterans of america, served as an army 1st lt. and infantry rifle platoon lead fler iraq. and senior investigative correspondent kerpt drew griffin that broke the story. paul, you said that bob mcdonald was not on anyone s radar for this position as a veteran and representative of the iraq and afghanistan vets. what do you make of this choice? it s a surprising choice because he doesn t come from the military. he doesn t come from the health care community he doesn t come from inside the va. look, we need a turnaround artist. if he s got experience that can turn around the va, that s what our veterans need because the trust is broken. right now, it going from p & g to the va will feel like driving a ferrari. the v oo is so deeply entrenched and has criminal investigations going on. mr. mcdonald will have to get used to operating in almost a constant state of chaos and regain the trust of over 9 million who depend on va for
