Phillipsburg council wants to know if meetings were caught up in alleged spying scheme

Prior to the coronavirus pandemic pushing its meetings to Zoom, Phillipsburg Town Council met at the Phillipsburg Housing Authority’s Heckman House.
The authority’s executive director, Paul Rummerfield, now faces charges of official misconduct and related counts after he allegedly installed cameras and microphones to spy on employees.
Council last week voted to have the town’s attorney, Rich Wenner, reach out to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office to see if any of its meetings either public or behind closed doors were caught in the alleged surveillance scheme.
Phillipsburg Housing Authority suspends director facing criminal charges

The Phillipsburg Housing Authority suspended its executive director with pay effective Friday, one week after the filing of criminal charges against him.
The authority’s board of commissioners approved the suspension of Paul Rummerfield during a special meeting Thursday night, according to audio of the meeting obtained by lehighvalleylive.com.
The board also appointed Tom McGuire acting administrator.
Rummerfield was charged Jan. 22 with official misconduct and other counts for allegedly installing cameras and microphones to spy on employees.
Attempts to reach him and board members for comment have been unsuccessful. Nor were messages seeking comment returned Friday by McGuire or counsel for the authority’s commissioners.

The executive director of Phillipsburg’s public housing agency faces charges of official misconduct and other counts after he allegedly installed cameras and microphones to spy on employees.
The Warren County Prosecutor’s Office announced the charges were filed Friday against 68-year-old Paul Rummerfield, a former Phillipsburg mayor and current head of the Phillipsburg Housing Authority.
