DAVENPORT, Iowa The Governor of Iowa made a visit to Downtown Davenport on Friday, February 12, as plans of maintaining and making improvements to the area are in talks.
With the notion of placemaking in mind, Chamber President & CEO Paul Rumler said they re focused on creating a place people want to live, and letting the job opportunities follow naturally, according to DowntownDavenport.com.

According to the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce, efforts of local elected officials, federal lawmakers and community and private-sector leaders helped secure more than $240 million in federal dollars to support continued modernization, improvements and workforce training at the Arsenal. The legislative victories build off wins in 2019 that helped align the Rock Island Arsenal with major Army modernization priorities and the National Defense Strategy, said Davenport Mayor Mike Matson.

With the new year, Illinois will see another minimum wage hike on Jan. 1.
The state’s minimum wage goes up to $11 for hourly workers, $6.60 for those who also earn tips, and youth workers get a bump up to $8.50.
Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed legislation into law in 2019 which provides a path to a $15 minimum wage by 2025. Administration officials have said the extra money will pump up the economy after workers go out and spend their increased wages.
“We want people who are working at the lowest wages in our economy, the poorest working people in Illinois, we think they deserve a raise,” Pritzker said.

EAST MOLINE, Ill The Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce is asking Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker to temporarily pause the minimum wage increase set for Jan. 1. The increase will bring the state s minimum wage up from $10 and hour to $11, and would be the third increase to the minimum wage in the past year.
