Live Performance Australia Cites New Figures In Call For Gov’t Intervention
Arts and entertainment industry peak body Live Performance Australia (LPA) cited figures from a new survey to call for the government to extend its wage subsidy JobKeeper for the sector.
The government is ending the scheme late March arguing 90% of the 1.3 million jobs lost in 2020 are replaced. But LPA chief executive Evelyn Richardson said that figure did not include arts and entertainment, which suffered “an estimated A$24 billion ($18.4 billion) of lost economic output and A$11 billion ($8.4 billion) lost in industry value. We’ve also seen 79,000 jobs lost, which is around two thirds of our work force.”
