Trucker who survived near-fatal wreck now home with family

ROCKFORD, Illinois â For the first time in nearly three weeks, trucker Paul Maksim woke up in the comfort of his own home in Rockford, Ill. All three of his kids were by his side for the first time since he was rescued from a near-fatal crash in West Michigan.
Maksim, 28, suffered extensive injuries to the lower half of his body after his semi hydroplaned on a wet highway and crashing into an overpass on June 23.
âIâm on bed rest for like three to four more weeks,â Maksim said on Zoom Sunday. And then Iâm trying to get into a rehab place to start trying to walk again.
Trucker, family connect with âguardian angelâ who helped after near-fatal crash
On June 23, he pulled up to the scene of a wreck on US-31 in Norton Shores. There he found Maksim in his semi-truck, which was flattened up against a pillar of an overpass. Maksim, a 28-year old trucker from Rockford Illinois was making a delivery when he hydroplaned on the wet highway and lost control. He was rescued, rushed to the hospital and while he suffered extensive injuries, miraculously he lives to tell the tale. âI ended up breaking everything in my lower[half), in my abdomen, like my entire pelvis and my femur. Everything is gone, but I m good,â Maksim explained. After the crash and while in the hospital, Maksim told his wife Courtney about a man named Issac, one of things he remembered after the accident. He explained that Issac held his hand and kept him alert until first responders got there. Courtney reached out to FOX 17 to see if we could help find him. âI w

A semi-truck driver is on the long road to recovery after a near-fatal wreck on a Muskegon County highway. Meanwhile, him and his family are hoping to track down another man who was on the road that fateful night. It all happened late Wednesday on US-31 near Norton Shores, when a semi-truck slammed against the pillar of an overpass at Airline Road. The driver, 28 year-old Paul Maksim of Rockford, Illinois was pinned inside. Police say he hydroplaned on the wet road and lost control.
