Signs have started appearing across the town as anger grows in the community. Construction of a controversial petrol station has started in Maleny, much to the disgust of residents against the development. Dr Adrian McCallum is urging the council to perform the testing so data can be compared once the station is operating. His children go to Maleny State School, which is across the road from the site. Despite community members rallying against the development it was approved without public consultation after the council implemented planning scheme changes that made it code assessable. In a letter to residents and nearby stakeholders, project manager Robert McGuckin wrote works were expected to be complete by May.
