A county court decision on embezzlement charges lodged against a former government minister may not be made until spring 2023, after the general election in March of that year, and close to two-and-a-half years after the first media reports which led to the allegations were published, ETV news show 'Aktuaalne kaamera' (AK) reported Friday.
Former education minister Mailis Reps' (Center) criminal case sees its preliminary hearing on Friday. Reps stands charged with embezzlement and fraud, during her time as minister, charges she strenuously denies.
The Center Party will cover the legal costs of one of its MPs, who faces both a criminal trial and a civil trial in the new year. The hearings arose from allegations the MP, Mailis Reps, misused ministry funds while she was education minister.
