From potatoes to corn, some Massachusetts farmers are dealing with the effects of a rainy summer that has impacted their prime growing and harvesting season.
The usual arrival of April showers never left, instead hovering like a rain cloud that refuses to move. And deluges in bunches extending into August have upended the expectations for crop yields that also suffered during last summer’s severe drought conditions.
One does not need to be a weather scientist to know that New England has been subject to unusual and inconsistent weather for this part of the country this year. To many the weather, marked most notably by heavy, persistent rain, may seem a welcome change in 2023 after 2022 saw the worst drought the region had experienced in years.
