A group of fishermen on a boat off the coast of Sydney have managed to reel in a massive 395 kg tiger shark.
But the catch has turned controversial and sparked a furious debate on social media with many calling the men selfish and stupid .
According to reports, the fishermen took more than 45 minutes to pull in the huge shark before heading to Port Hacking in Sydney s Sutherland Shire.
A surf life saving club has slammed a plan to remove shark nets at some of Sydney s most popular beaches - just one day after a 394.5kg beast was hauled off the coast.
Greens Councillor Lindsay Shurey wants Randwick Council moved a motion to phase out the shark meshing program at local beaches, including Coogee and Maroubra, in the city s eastern suburbs.
Ms Shurey said other marine mammals, turtles and fish become trapped in the nets and she believes there are othre alternatives to keep sharks away from beachgoers.
While the councillor s motion was rejected by Liberal councillor Brendan Roberts and NSW Minister for Agriculture Adam Marshall, the South Maroubra Surf Lifesaving Club has also joined the criticism.

Port Hacking Game Fishing Club member Paul Barning and his crew, on a boat dubbed the Dark Horse , were photographed struggling to fit the huge fish onto their vessel. The tiger shark was caught on a 15kg break line about 15km off the coast, between Botany Bay and Port Hacking, during the NSW Game Fishing Association Interclub State Championships over the weekend. Â Â Â Â The successful catch came after the crew lost a fish they had hooked a day earlier after spending a gruelling six hours trying to bring it on board.
