FEMA Approves Wildfire Aid For Eastern Washington Counties

Thursday President Joe Biden approved federal aid for victims of wildfires in Washington. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved disaster relief requests for nine eastern Washington counties and two Native tribes impacted by summer wildfires. That includes aid for the Whitman County towns of Malden and Pine City, which burned during a Labor Day wildfire that was fanned by high winds. Today’s news means that communities affected by wildfires can now apply for federal aid. Previous requests for assistance had been ignored by the Trump Administration. Scott Hokonson, a Malden town council member and the head of the Pine Creek rebuilding effort, said the approval comes as a relief for many Malden and Pine City who have spent the last five months in limbo.

Does a gender wage gap even exist?

Does a gender wage gap even exist? Tuesday, February 2, 2021  |  Chris Woodward (OneNewsNow.com) Not all women are on board with lawmakers push for fairness. The Paycheck Fairness Act from Senator Patty Murray (D-Washington) and Representative Rose DeLauro (D-Connecticut) aims to close the gender pay gap and help women in America and their families achieve increased economic security. There is no such thing as a gender wage gap, Ashe Short of The Daily Wire tells One News Now. Women are not paid less for doing the same work as men. If they were, Short wonders why anyone would hire men when they could just get women to do the same jobs for less.

Senate Filibuster s Future Shaky, Meaning Radical Agenda Could Someday be Imposed by 51-to-50 Vote

Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev. (AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite) 6226406300001 Pretty much in every place in the nation’s capital, the majority rules. The lone holdout is the U.S. Senate, which was created to be a slower, more deliberative body.  The filibuster slows things down by forcing the 100-member Senate to get 60 votes to move ahead on an issue.  In a Senate split 50-to-50, with Vice President Kamala Harris set to weigh in with the tie-breaking 51st vote, one of the only ways the Democrats can pass extremely controversial laws would be to abolish the filibuster, which gives the minority its only way to block those changes.

Why is it taking so long to give out lifesaving vaccines in Washington state?

O n average, 3,000 Americans are dying from the coronavirus every day. A new COVID strain first identified in the United Kingdom has added to California s woes. Hospitals in Los Angeles County have been so overwhelmed that ambulances can t take some heart attack victims to the emergency room. Washington state, however, has been one of the most successful states in slowing down the spread of the coronavirus. It went from the first state to be hit with the outbreak last March to the state with the fifth-lowest total number of cases today. Yet, when it comes to the drugs that could end the thing, restart our economy and restore our way of life, Washington has been slow out of the gates.
