Instead of baby clothes, Patti Marton gave her infant nephew the gift of life.
Marton, 36, of Ocala, became a living organ donor when a portion of her liver was taken in a six-hour operation on Jan. 26 at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Children s Hospital and given to her nephew Clayton Niemesch.
Marton met and held her 8-month-old nephew for the first time the day before the surgery.
Clayton was born June 5 to Stacie and Matt Niemesch of Strongsville, Ohio. Stacie Niemesch is the sister of Patti Marton’s husband, Tim.
Clayton was taken days after his birth to University Hospital s Rainbow and Babies Hospital in Cleveland. He was soon placed in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
