COVID-19 victim Mary Mendoza loved to cheer on KU
The News asked readers to share stories of people of our community who have been lost to COVID-19. This is one of the lives remembered that of Mary Mendoza.
Before COVID-19 claimed her life in November, Mary Mendoza had the distinction of being the longest liver transplant survivor of the University of Kansas Hospital at 29 years.
She was also, her daughter said, one of KU basketball’s biggest fans.
The two were related.
Mendoza, 88, didn’t attend the University of Kansas and had no interest in sports for most of her life, said her daughter, Patti Keen, of Hutchinson.
