(Photo: Pattanapong Sripiachai) NAKHON PHANOM: A village head is being investigated for allegedly failing to self-quarantine and visiting a temple in That Phanom district after returning from a designated risk province on April 11. She later tested positive for Covid-19. Nakhon Phanom governor Kaisorn Kongchalard said on Thursday that the infected woman faces a fact-finding probe.  The 55-year-old head of a village in tambon Nam Kam had visited her daughter in Pathum Thani province on April 9. Pathum Thani is one of 18 provinces declared red maximum control zones by the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA).

Nakhon Phanom governor Kraisorn Kongchalard said mass testing was underway to contain the spread of the virus. About 1,500 peope who had visited the pub had been tested so far.  New cases were being detected each day. Test results were still awaited for about 1,000 people as of Wednesday morning, he said.

(Photo by Pattanapong Sripiachai) NAKHON PHANOM: A man missing for four or five days was found dead at the bottom of a well at a temple in Muang district on Sunday morning, police said. Pol Capt Chom Churat, a Muang police duty officer, said the discovery was reported to police at about 9am. Police and a rescue unit went to Wat Tha Nong Chan temple at Moo 13 village in tambon Tha Kho to investigate. A foul smell was emanating from the well, and a body could be seen floating in the 2-metre deep water at the bottom. The well was about 2m in diameter and 12m deep.

Capt Rit Natwong, commander of the Nakhon Phanom MRU station, said at a press conference on Wednesday that an MRU unit went on patrol along the road between Mukdahan and Nakhon Phanom after receiving a tip-off that a huge consignment of drugs would be smuggled across the Mekong river from Laos  to an area adjoining That Phanom and Wan Yai district.
