  The Minister-designate for Communications and Digitization, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has described sitting on her fellow legislator, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh‘s lap, during the dissolution of the 7th Parliament as using physical restraint to subdue him. Her comment was in reference to the incident that happened in the Chamber of Parliament during the early hours of Wednesday, January 7, 2020 during the election of a new Speaker of Parliament. As part of the events of that day, Members of Parliament (MP) of the National Democratic Congress occupied the seats meant for their colleagues on the other side of the aisle, creating confusion in the House when the New Patriotic Party MPs came in.

NDC Vows Not To Recognize Akufo-Addo As President Until

  The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says notwithstanding the inauguration of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as President of Ghana for a second term in office, the party will not recognise him as such until all issues surrounding his election are resolved. The declaration was made known by the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia at a press briefing in Accra on Friday. Notwithstanding the swearing-in, the NDC shall not recognise Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo until all the issues surrounding his flawed election are satisfactorily resolved, Asiedu Nketiah said. However, he maintained that NDC Members of Parliament would perform their parliamentary duties such as debating bills and vetting Ministers nominated by the President Akufo-Addo administration.
