The U.S. Capitol Police officer who died Thursday in the Washington, D.C., riot was a South River native who served in the New Jersey Air National Guard and found his own political voice by writing letters to his local newspaper.
Brian D. Sicknick s death left his family devastated and the community wounded, South River Mayor John Krenzel said.
“The family has requested privacy at this time and said Brian did his job,” Krenzel said, ordering municipal flags at half-staff.
Sicknick, 42, was one of five people to die in the attack on the U.S. Capitol building. An officer with the U.S. Capitol Police since 2008, he served most recently in the First Responder Unit.
