Mother of three jailed 28 years for child theft in A Ibom – Punch Newspapers

Punch Newspapers Sections Patrick Odey, Uyo The Akwa Ibom State High Court sitting in Uyo has sentenced one Mary Effiong, a mother of three, to 28 years’ imprisonment for stealing two pupils of St. Philip’s Primary School, Use Offot, for sale in Osisioma Ngwa, Abia State. It was gathered that the incident occurred on November 12, 2018, when the convict lured the then five- and six-year-old pupils with biscuits after claiming to be a friend of their mothers. Effiong in her extrajudicial statement had told the police that she went to the school and lured the pupils following her agreement with one Blessing Sunday, alias Mummy Vom, from Osisioma Ngwa in Abia State, who engaged her to look for children from Akwa Ibom and bring to her.

Recruitment scam: NIS backs calls for social media regulation

The Comptroller General of the NIS, Mohammad Babandede said social media is good, but criminals are now manipulating it for the wrong reasons. Babandede who spoke against the backdrop of fake recruitment in the Service warned the public to be wary of recruitment fraudsters who are manipulating social media to deceive people, warning that recruitment into the Service is not for sale. He gave the warning on Thursday at Afaha Offiong Village in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State while responding to request for employment by the paramount ruler in the LGA, Elder Dr Manasseh Akpan, during the commissioning of the newly constructed Forward Operation Base.
