Busisi bridge: Police hold eight over 19 beams, bolts
POLICE in Mwanza Region are holding eight suspects found with materials taken from the Kigongo-Busisi Bridge project which is under construction.
The strategic infrastructure connects Misungwi and Sengerema districts in Mwanza and Geita regions respectively, and is being cbuilt at a cost of 700bn/-, set for completion in two years time.
Regional Police Commander Muliro Jumanne told reporters here yesterday that the eight suspects were nabbed with among other materials, 19 beams, 16 huge bolts and a welding machine that were taken from the construction depot.

DAR ES SALAAM, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) Tanzanian Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa said on Friday he was impressed by the pace of construction of a 3.2-kilometer bridge on Lake Victoria constructed by two Chinese construction companies.
A statement by the Prime Minister s Office said Majaliwa expressed satisfaction on the construction of the bridge when he inspected it during his one-day working visit to Mwanza region.
The bridge, one of the longest in Africa, is being constructed by the China Railway 15th Bureau Group Co., Ltd. and the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation.
