The DR Congo government has said that Italian Ambassador to Kinshasa, Luca Attanasio, was killed by Rwandan Hutu rebels.
The Italian envoy was killed on Monday in an ambush near Goma, in the province of North Kivu.
A statement from the Congolese Ministry of Interior and Security said it suspected “elements” of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR), an exiled Hutu militia, ambushed a World Food Programme (WFP) convoy in Goma, killing the diplomat and two other people.

Mr Ilunga was dismissed by the vote of parliamentarians on Wednesday, as 367 of the 500 deputies in Parliament voted for the removal of the Prime minister and his government.
On Wednesday, he angrily said he did not recognise the authority of the assembly s provisional bureau, which oversees legislative affairs, to organise a censure vote.

DR Congo’s Prime Minister Sylvestre Ilunga Ilunkamba resigned on Friday, a day after the National Assembly censured him for incompetence.
He and his team will manage current affairs until the next government is appointed.

President Felix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) received a Rwandan delegation at State House on Tuesday for talks on bilateral cooperation.
They were Vincent Biruta, Joseph Nzabamwita, Donald Kaberuka and Vincent Karega, who are Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Secretary General of Intelligence Services, Senior Official to the African Union and Rwandan Ambassador posted to Kinshasa, respectively.
According to the presidential press in Kinshasa, the four carried a “special message” from Rwandan president Paul Kagame to Tshisekedi.
But the source of the presidency indicated that the delegation from Kigali did not comment on this “personal message”.

Daniel Ngoy Mulunda is said to have agitated for secession at the weekend. He was detained on Monday and his house ransacked by intelligence agents in Lubumbashi, southern DRC.
