Weather conditions led to a busy day on the roads for police all across virginia. They tell us they responded to more than 160 accidents today between midnight and 7 00 this morning. Folks were asked to delay their trips until roads could be cleared. By 8 00 a. M. The streets around mclean here were passable but slick. Some of those who did stay put used that time to shovel the snow before it could refreeze and turn into ice. The slick conditions didnt go away though. Police tell us by 2 00 in the afternoon, the number of accidents had jumped to, get this, more than 500. R rebecca with the Montgomery County police and an unidentified suspect who saw the suspects. The male victim opened up the residence. The two suspects forced theyre way in. The 86yearold wife was home at the time. The suspects displayed handguns and ransacked the home. We saw two guys from a distance coming towards us. They were wearing black hoodies, a small under armour. Horizontal glasses, brown shoes, and keys hanging from them. Reporter again, an armed daylight Home Invasion here on our live court. A lot of drizzle across the too, and thats going to be the case through the night tonight. Anything that does fall though will fall as rain and then freeze on contact. Thats what freezing rain is, and thats why we still have that winter storm warning in effect for everybody here in the pink. Rain to the south. Very splotchy in nature. The real precipitation, the real area of rain way back to the west. But by the time that gets here it will be warm enough for all rain. We still have to contend with the areas of freezing rain. Take a look at the numbers. 29, the temperature right now in d. C. Only 23 in martinsburg. That tells us that it will be prolonged periods of freezing rain as we move through the night tonight. Some locations picking up a tenth to potentially a quarter inch of freezing rain. And thats why we still have the winter storm warnings in effect for everybody in the pink. Montgomery county, anne arundel, and howard county, but everybody else under that winter storm warning.
