(Photo by Ariana Drehsler/AFP/Getty Images) With Covid-19 vaccinations on the horizon for children ages 12 to 15 in the United States, pediatricians are concerned about the challenge of getting children up to date on their childhood vaccines, and balancing that with scheduling potential Covid-19 shots. The US Food and Drug Administration authorized use of Pfizer s coronavirus vaccine in 12-15-year-olds on Monday and scheduled a meeting of its outside advisers for June 10 to discuss the potential use of Covid-19 vaccines in younger children.

(Photo by CHANDAN KHANNA/AFP via Getty Images) The US Food and Drug Administration expanded the emergency use authorization for Pfizer s Covid-19 vaccine on Monday to include people ages 12 to 15. This is the first Covid-19 vaccine in the United States authorized for use in younger teens and adolescents; the vaccine had previously been authorized for people age 16 and older. Covid-19 vaccines from Moderna and Johnson & Johnson are authorized for use in people age 18 and older.
