MASSENA â When the Massena Central School Board of Education meets for its annual meeting on Wednesday, three individuals who had been seated at the table wonât have a presence.
Board President Patrick Bronchetti did not seek another term, board member Kristy Baker did not win in her re-election bid in May, and student representative Delany Durant graduated on June 25.
Taking their place will be board members Timothy Hayes and Patricia Murphy. A student representative will be appointed after school reopens in September.
At their final meeting, the departing members received certificates of appreciation and accolades for their service.
Mr. Bronchetti thanked Ms. Durant, noting, âI was always in favor of a student member on the board and you blossomed and made it beyond what I thought it could be. You were fantastic. You participated, asked a lot of questions and brought a lot of information to us. You did an awesome job.â

MASSENA - Five candidates will be seeking two seats on the Massena Central School board of education. The vote will be held May 18 from noon to 8 p.m. at the Massena Community Center, 61 Beach St.
DuBray Baker is the lone incumbent. Board President Patrick Bronchetti has opted not to seek reelection.

Timothy Hayes
Hayes has worked in education for 30 years at St Lawrence Central and Massena Central School Districts.
“During that time I taught in various special education classrooms, worked in administration as Director of Athletics, coached, worked with clubs, organizations and committees,” he said. MASSENA â School districts typically thank their boards of education for the work they do, but the thanks were returned by the Massena Central School Board of Education to the district for their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.
âI know weâve said it several times in appreciation of all our staff, top to bottom. Itâs truly remarkable how weâve come through this,â President Patrick Bronchetti told board members during their last meeting.
But theyâve never put those thanks in writing.
âTrustee (Robert) LeBlanc sent me a letter and copied all the board members, suggesting we do it officially. So we put a letter of acknowledgement and recognition attached to the agenda,â Mr. Bronchetti said.
MASSENA â Five candidates are running for two open seats on the Massena Central School Board of Education, and the community will have an opportunity to meet them during a candidate forum scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Massena Community Center.
The seats are currently held by board President Patrick Bronchetti, who is not seeking another term, and incumbent Kristy Baker. She had been elected to a one-year term in 2020 to fill out a five-year term for former board member Jason Premo, who resigned his seat in February 2020. Following his resignation, the board appointed Patrick Serguson to serve until Ms. Bakerâs election in May 2020.
