Coast Guard calls off search between the Bahamas and Florida for missing boat with about 20 aboard

By WAYNE K. ROUSTAN | The South Florida Sun Sentinel | Published: January 1, 2021 FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Tribune News Service) A search that covered more than 17,000 square miles, over 80 hours, between the Bahamas and Florida has ended with no sign of a missing boat with an estimated 20 people aboard, the U.S. Coast Guard said Friday. The 29-foot blue and white Mako Cubby Cabin departed Bimini on Monday bound for Lake Worth Beach, but Bahamian authorities reported it missing and sought the Coast Guard’s help. Coast Guard air and sea crews and aircraft from Patrick Air Force Base in Brevard County were assisting the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and Bahamas Air Sea Rescue Association with the search.

Space Florida Looks Back on a Busy Year – Parabolic Arc

EXPLORATION PARK, Fla. (December 23, 2020) – Today, Space Florida shared the many accomplishments of Florida’s aerospace and commercial space industry in 2020. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Florida’s Cape Canaveral Spaceport kept launching rockets. In May, the world watched as American astronauts lifted off from Florida for the first time since 2011, marking a new era of human spaceflight and commercial space exploration. The aerospace industry represents a key part of the State’s strategy for post-pandemic economic recovery, and Space Florida has good reason to be enthusiastic about the future of aerospace. “Despite the challenges that COVID-19 brought to the State, our industry and our organization, Space Florida is pleased to have had a successful year of growth within the aerospace industry here in the State of Florida, with support from Governor DeSantis as well as our Board Chair and Lieutenant Governor Nuñez,” said Space Florida President and CEO Frank DiBello.

Colorado pressing Trump to keep Space Command in state

By JUDITH KOHLER | The Denver Post | Published: December 19, 2020 (Tribune News Service) A decision is expected in January on the permanent headquarters of the U.S. Space Command, and Gov. Jared Polis along with more than 600 of the state s political, business, civic and military leaders are making another pitch to the outgoing commander in chief to choose Colorado. A letter sent Friday to President Donald Trump said Colorado is the epicenter of national security space and the only permanent home for U.S. Space Command. Earlier this year, Peterson Air Force base in Colorado Springs was named the Space Command s provisional headquarters for at least six years and in November was named one of six finalists to be the permanent site. It has been home to the Air Force Space Command since 1982.

Why Florida would be perfect home for the U S Space Force command headquarters

If there is such a thing.  We knew all along that the state has been a welcoming home for space cadets, and I guess this would formalize that. Pentagon officials have selected Patrick Air Force Base in Brevard County as one of the six possible locations for the U.S. Space Command headquarters (SPACECOM). Not only is the Cape Canaveral launch pad nearby, but the base is conveniently located in a part of the state that is most likely to be visited by space aliens.
