Facebook Share Syracuse, N.Y. – Onondaga County saw a record number of opioid drug overdose deaths last year during the Covid-19 epidemic. The county health department reported there were 156 opioid deaths in 2020, up from 127 in 2019, a 23% increase. The 2020 opioid death toll is the highest in Onondaga County since the health department began tracking the numbers at the start of the opioid epidemic in 2012. The previous record high was 142 opioid deaths in 2016.
