Woman who accused NYC mayoral candidate of sexual assault files complaint with state AG

The woman who accused New York City Comptroller and mayoral candidate Scott Stringer of sexual assault Tuesday filed a formal complaint against him with the office of state Attorney General Letitia James (D). Jean Kim has accused Stringer of several instances of assault and harassment, and her claims have already led to several backers dropping their endorsements for his mayoral bid.  “Jean Kim, through her attorney, has filed this morning a formal complaint with the New York State Office of the Attorney General (OAG) alleging Sexual Abuse and Sexual Harassment by Scott Stringer while he was a New York State Assemblyman running for the office of Public Advocate,” Kim’s lawyer, Patricia Pastor, said in a statement.

Claims by Scott Stringer Accuser Jean Kim Unravel

The explosive news initially broke on April 28 by the local Gothamist in an article headlined “Former Campaign Intern Accuses Scott Stringer Of Sexual Abuse, Harassment.” It described Kim’s allegation, made in a statement provided by her attorney, that in 2001, while she was working as an intern on his campaign for New York City public advocate, Stringer “kissed me using his tongue, put his hand down my pants and groped me inside my underpants.” “I pulled away and tried to avoid him,” she said. Later that day, at a press conference, Kim reiterated her allegations, setting off a spiral of denunciations from rivals and former supporters of Stringer. Stringer flatly denied the allegation, saying he and Kim had been involved in an on-again, off-again consensual relationship a “light relationship,” he called it at one point.
