The family of the man who was starved for over four days at the Tembisa Tertiary Hospital on the East Rand say they are relieved that they now know the truth behind their son s death. The report provided answers to many questions we had. It is very disturbing.my son died a lonely death, said Shonisani Lethole s mother Patricia Lethole.
In a press conference held on Thursday morning, she said she hopes the hospital urgently applies the recommendations of the health ombudsman, Prof Malegapuru Makgoba. I was so shocked at how a hospital can be an enemy of truth.how can you deal with human beings if you cannot show the truth? she asked.

The family of the late Shonisani Lethole is demanding the immediate suspension of the CEO of Tembisa Hospital Dr Lekopane Mogaladi.

The family made the call a day after the release of a report by Health Ombudsman Professor Malegapuru Makgoba into the death of Lethole during his stay at the hospital in July last year.
The report revealed that Lethole was not fed for 100 hours and 54 minutes.
His mother Patricia Lethole said the family experienced deep trauma through not knowing the cause of her son’s death.

The Gauteng Department of Health has denied that it plans to challenge the Health Ombudsman report into the death of Shonisani Lethole during his stay at Tembisa Hospital.

This comes after Tembisa Hospital CEO Dr Lekopane Mogaladi was quoted as saying the institution will take the report on review.
The department’s spokesperson Kwara Kekana says anyone challenging the report will do so in their individual capacity.
“The department, and by extension its facilities which includes Tembisa Hospital, remains committed to implementing the recommendations of the report within the prescripts of the law once the department has concluded studying the report and its findings.

SENIOR staff members at Tembisa Hospital are enemies of the truth.
This is according to Patricia Lethole, whose son Shonisani died at the Ekurhuleni hospital after not getting food for 100 hours following admission.
She was speaking in a virtual media briefing yesterday after a finding by the health ombudsman that Shonisani was starved to death.
“We were shocked to read in the report that senior medical professionals and leaders of the hospital misrepresented information,” said Patricia.
“I was so surprised at how a hospital could be an enemy of the truth like this. It’s shocking.

JOHANNESBURG - Shonisani Lethole’s mother has welcomed the Health Ombudsman’s report on the death of her son.
Patricia Lethole said Tembisa Hospital staff must undergo ethical leadership training.
Shonisani died at the hospital in July last year after being admitted with breathing difficulties.
The ombudsman’s report revealed how he was starved for more than 100 hours.
Patricia said her son s case is not an isolated one at Tembisa Tertiary Hospital, adding that many families have had the worst experiences with the facility.
