Buxton Fringe hosts award-winning play tackling challenging issues

An award-winning, hard-hitting drama will be presented at Buxton Fringe. Monday, 19th July 2021, 5:30 am The play Buttercup focuses on three best friends who were teenagers in Belfast during the troubled Seventies and since then tackle everything that life and history throws at them. Buttercup deals with suicide and reflects the language and attitudes of its time. Viewers may find some of the scenes distressing nnd the content offensive. The play is targeted at audience members of 16+ years. Written and directed by Patricia Downey, the production by Spanner in the Works will be staged at The Old Clubhouse in Buxton, from July 19 to 24.

Obituary: Thomas Wayne “Wayno” Downey, 86, of Guilford Patch 3/16/2021 Ellyn Santiago Thomas Wayne “Wayno” Downey, 86, passed away March 11, 2021. He was the husband and life partner of his high school sweetheart, Joan Helen Rabbitt Downey, for more than sixty years. Born December 12, 1934, in Fitchburg, MA, Wayne was the son of Thomas and Mildred Downey. Wayne’s life and love was between Guilford, CT and the camp on Branch Lake in Maine. He began his educational career at Milford High School(‘52), The Hopkins School (‘53), Yale College (‘57), Yale School of Medicine (‘61); continuing education at the University of Minnesota (Pediatrics) and Department of Psychiatry at Yale.
