A North Alabama woman plays a big role in Space Jam 2 and it’s now playing at theaters.
Sonequa Martin Green, who plays NBA star Lebron James wife in the movie, is from Russellville.
WAAY-31 went to Russellville to talk to a high school drama teacher who used to perform right beside Green.
At the auditorium at Russellville High School where this was the first place many saw Sonequa shine on stage.
Now, one drama teacher wants to let her students know you can make it from a small town to the big leagues if you just try hard enough.

BUSINESS GROUPS CAUGHT FLAT-FOOTED BY CDC MASK GUIDANCE: The Biden administration’s announcement Thursday that fully vaccinated Americans can ditch their masks in most situations is undoubtedly a major milestone in the country’s fight against Covid-19. But trade groups representing the businesses, and a union representing the workers who will now be tasked with enforcing mask-wearing for unvaccinated people, are now scrambling to parse what the guidance means for their members.
Larry Lynch, who as senior vice president of science and industry for the National Restaurant Association handles its Covid operating guidance, said in an interview that the new recommendations may be the industry’s biggest challenge yet. “We don t know how to be the vaccine police,” he said. “CDC didn t do us didn t do the industry, any big favors,” he added, though “it certainly helped consumers.”
They wear black and yellow Polo-style shirts that make them easy to spot.
And, increasingly, the group is being tied to demonstrations that have turned destructive and deadly, including the storming of the U.S. Capitol last week.
With President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration next week and threats made to target Washington D.C. and state capitals, many are concerned that the Proud Boys and other radical, right-leaning groups could wreak more havoc.
“You’re seeing a lot of rhetoric – revolution, attacks on statehouses, Biden’s inauguration,” said David Licate, a University of Akron criminal justice professor who once served on an FBI team that studied violent extremists. “You have to take it seriously. They (Proud Boys) are becoming more violent.”
