We are back live in the cnn newsroom. Im jim acosta in washington. We are tracking hurricane hilary. The system just weakened to a category 2 storm with winds of 110 miles per hour. The historic and potentially catastrophic storm is barrelling toward the southwestern United States, triggering the first ever Tropical Storm warning for millions of people in Southern California. The San Bernardino county Sheriffs Department just issued an Evacuation Warning for some areas in that part of Southern California. Thats just east of los angeles in the mountain and foothill areas. Hilary could bring a years worth of rain in a single day to parts of california, arizona, and nevada. Lets go straight to the cnn weather center, Meteorologist Derek Van Dam has been following the hurricanes path. I suppose its good news that the hurricane is weakening at some point, but that doesnt necessarily mean that people in that part of the country can let down their guards or folks in mexico as well. students, it may not, unless you are inspecting their backpack and unless are doing a patdown search each and every student, you aren t going to be able to actually get that kind of a person. and it seems as though this person here, at this school, i don t know if he had a sawed-off shot gun and he had a pistol he well could have hidden those things even if some one was at the front door to look people or students up and down. it s just, there s no 100% way of keeping students safe, unfortunately, in schools. harris: as you and i have covered, ted, incidents like this, we ve covered terror incidents together on the air, with each time you are always able to tell us how things are different this time. and i m wondering if this has become something that local police are going to need some help with in terms of stopping this. i interviewed a young man who was born around the time

they don t have type to run background checks on all the fliers. the fastest and easiest thing for them to do is put us through the scanner. when somebody says i don t want you to do the patdown search that raises red flags. the tsa makes that same complaint. but i beg to differ. going back through the line, stepping back in the scanner might take a couple seconds, but the body search is taking oner than that and our loss of our dignity and privacy is not something i think we have to give up to have security. i think spending too much time on frequent business travelers that we are taking time away from people how do think we should spend time in advance, examining who the passengers are on a plane. if your travel history that you have been to yemen twice in the last six months or traveling to pakistan or other places in the middle east, i think you deserve snore scrutiny, but i don t think a 6-year-old girl from
