1 Dead, 1 Injured After Shooting Near Niles Apartment: Police

(Jonah Meadows/Patch) MAINE TOWNSHIP, IL An 18-year-old man is dead and an 18-year-old woman was seriously injured in a shooting outside an apartment building on Thursday evening, police said. The shooting occurred around 4 p.m. in a parking lot of a building on the 9600 block of North Greenwood Avenue in unincorporated Maine Township, officials from the Cook County Sheriff s Office said in a statement. The area is near both Niles and Glenview. A gunman walked up to a car parked in a lot on the south side of the building and opened fire, striking both teens, police said. The man was shot in the head and later pronounced dead at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. The women sustained a gunshot wound to the arm and was also taken to Advocate Lutheran where she is listed in serious condition.

Man Goes Missing From Des Plaines Nursing Home

Reply (Cook County Sheriff s Office) MAINE TOWNSHIP, IL Police asked the public for help finding a man who went missing last week from a nursing home in unincorporated Des Plaines. Szymon Tomerski, 72, was last seen around 8 p.m. Friday leaving his home, the Landmark Nursing Home at 9300 W. Ballard Road, according to the Cook County Sheriff s Office. Tomerski was described as 5 feet, 10 inches tall, about 170 pounds and with a brown and gray hair, a fair complexion and blue eyes, according to the sheriff s office.
