FALL RIVER Witnesses who testified in former Fall River Mayor Jasiel Correia II s federal corruption trial said on Friday they weren t surprised to see guilty verdicts come down on most counts.
“He deserved what he got,” said businessman Steve Miller, one of the investors in SnoOwl Correia defrauded. “It’s pretty hard to sugarcoat what he did.”
Corriea was convicted on 21 out of 24 counts of wire fraud, tax fraud, extortion and conspiracy.
Pat Tod, who owns the warehouse where SnoOwl was located, called it astonishing that Correia was still exonerated on three counts. The jury found him not guilty on one count for bribing his then chief-of-staff Gen Andrade into giving him half of her salary and two counts for allegedly extorting Fall River property owner Tony Costa in exchange for a city permit to do work on a water main.
