Baked beans, spaghetti, scampi, fig jam and French fries these are only a few of the crazy toppings you can get on a pizza in the SouthCoast. It makes the pineapple topping debate a thing of the past.
The word “pizza” was first documented in 997 A.D. in different parts of Italy. It became popular during World War II when Allied troops stationed in Italy came to enjoy native foods such as pizza. Now, 1 in 8 Americans consume pizza on any given day.
And what goes on a pizza seems to be an ever-changing discussion. Thrilllist.com’s “Strangest Pizza Toppings” lists pizzas will full lobsters, grapes, peanut butter and an entire Thanksgiving dinner (see Fellini’s Pizzeria in Providence).
