After the verdict was read in the murder case of George Floyd, Greenvilleâs Will Hobdy said that he saw it as a possible step forward, in improving race relations in America.
On Tuesday, a Minnapolis jury found former police office Derek Chauvin guilty of three charges, including two for the murder of Floyd. For activists, like Hobdy, who is president of the Greenville Branch of the NAACP, it was a moment that will not soon be forgotten.
âWhen I watched it [the reading of the verdict] on the news, it just seemed to me that justice worked,â said Greenville NAACP Branch President Will Hobdy.

Billy Paul Wright was born on April 26, 1937, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and passed away on December 7, 2020, in Greenville Texas. His parents were John and Bessie Wright.
Billy grew up and lived most of his life in Mt. Pleasant. He attended Paris Jr College and became a surveyor with the Army Corps of Engineers. He was a surveyor for over fifty years with his brother J.T. Wright at Wright Brothers Surveying. He worked with Tyler Jr College surveyor students, and was famous for his annual fish frys. He enjoyed tennis, fishing, and other outdoor activities. His favorite Tex-Mex restaurant kept special, VERY hot sauce for his visits. Bill was a member of the Abundant Life Pentecostal church in Mt. Pleasant and after he retired, Living Word and Wesley Methodist churches in Greenville.
