While healthcare professionals and first responders have been at the top of the lists of honored “essential workers” during the COVID 19 pandemic, another vital group has been agriculturists – the farmers and ranchers whose jobs never stopped while much of the world came grinding to a collective halt.
And many of these kind-hearted folks also donated a portion of their harvest and provided meats to area food banks, local church/ community pantries, etc., to help combat the financial crisis created by the overall job stoppage. Many of their fellow Texans, Ellis County residents, and local neighbors were severely impacted.

The Waxahachie HEB grocery store offered a supply of 1,000 free Johnson & Johnson COVID Janssen vaccine injections, as administered by multiple area DFW HEB pharmacists and many other staff members on March 6. These vaccines were assigned to the Ellis County store by courtesy of state and local governments. The COVID-19 vaccine shots were given under the direction of Head Pharmacy Manager (Waxahachie store) Derek Lehew.
Because of the limited space at the local store and pharmacy, HEB Manager Bruce Graves had contacted Pastor Bruce Zimmerman earlier last week and requested the assistance of his Waxahachie Bible Church (WBC) to host the “no charge” event at their facilities on North Grand Avenue on Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon.

Railyard Park Waxahachie sponsored a special evening at its new venue, just south of the downtown area, in partnership with Waxahachie Bible Church (WBC) on Thursday evening, Dec. 17. It was a crisp and cool night, perfect for everyone to get into the Christmas holiday spirit.
Mayor David Hill opened the caroling concert with a welcoming prayer for the audience on hand. The Praise Team from WBC singers and musicians took over the evening from that point on.
The group entertained those in attendance by leading well-known Christmas carols and inviting them to join in the fun. Some crowd favorites included “O Holy Night,” “Away in A Manger,” “Joy to the World,” and “Silent Night.” The grand finale was led by Hispanic Pastor Manuel Martinez from WBC, whose music featured the Spanish/English version of “Feliz Navidad.”
