How to Apply for a Passport Online in India

Once the details are entered, type the Captcha characters and then click on the Register button. Now, login to the Passport Seva portal with your registered login ID. Click the Apply for Fresh Passport/ Re-issue of Passport link. It is important to note that while applying under the Fresh Issuance category, you must have never held an Indian passport in the past. Otherwise, you should apply under the Reissue category. Fill in the required details in the form that appear on the screen and click Submit. Full services won t resume at Passport Office for months with backlog to take eight weeks to clear

It will be months yet before full services resume at the Passport Office, with officials “confident” that any backlog can be cleared in eight weeks. Figures for 2019, when a record 900,000 passports were issued, suggest that 200,000 passports have not been issued or renewed in the first three months of this year. Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney has said a resumption of some passport processing will not resume until the country moves to Level 4 restrictions, while full services will only resume under Level 3. It has been confirmed that some passport staff have been temporarily reassigned to the Department of Health to combat the Covid-19 emergency.

Irish Passport Service responds to changing demands in 2020

30/12/20 The Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence, Mr. Simon Coveney, T.D., has announced that the Passport Service issued more than 400,000 Irish passports in 2020. This is around 40% of the number issued in 2019. Despite the introduction of travel restrictions both nationally and internationally in 2020, Irish citizens continued to require passports, particularly our community living overseas. The Passport Service paused operations during periods of Level 5 restrictions but continued to offer a same day service for emergencies and a weekly service for urgent adult renewals. This service was facilitated via the award winning Passport Online system. To assist with the wider State response to COVID-19, Passport Service personnel were also redeployed into other, essential public service roles, such as contact tracing for the HSE and assisting the Department of Social Protection to facilitate the processing of COVID-19 related benefits.
